City Mayor Paul Dennett has announced his new cabinet. It will see two strategic assistant mayors abolished and replaced with two brand new posts. Paula Boshell will take the position of Statutory Deputy Mayor and focus on internal council and city issues. Proposals Sought To Help Improve Lives Of Disabled People
Organisations are invited to apply for up to £150, 000 from the Disability Research on Independent Living and Learning programme which launched last autumn and expects to fund around 40 projects in the UK over the next four years. DRILL opened this Monday 9 May for applications and will close on 27 July. Salford City Mayor Elected
Salford’s voters have elected a new City Mayor. Labour’s Paul Dennett secured 28,332 votes, beating second place Councillor Robin Garrido who stood for the Conservative party and received 14,484 votes. The mayoral election used the supplementary voting system, meaning voters had two choices. After the first choice votes were counted Labour candidate, Paul Dennett received 24,209 votes (49.56 per cent) and Conservative candidate Councillor Robin Garrido, received 11,810 votes (24.18 per cent); meaning they moved to a second round of voting as no candidate achieved an overall majority. The results of Salford’s local elections have been announced. The political makeup of the council remains the same - 51 Labour - 8 Conservative and 1 Independent. 50,256 votes were cast - 30% of the electorate turned out to vote. It’s never been safer to eat food in Salford. Latest hygiene ratings from Salford City Council show that 90.5 per cent of all food businesses in the city are receiving a rating of three or higher. Environmental health officers visit all 2,193 food businesses in the city and they are given a rating from zero to five, depending on the hygiene standards. Ideas Wanted To Improve Lives Of Young People
Salford City Council is looking for people who want to make a difference in Kersal, Broughton and Charlestown. The one year pilot scheme has been launched to give the community a voice on how things can be done differently to improve the lives of children and families. New Child Abuse Campaign Launched
Salford City Council is supporting a new government campaign to encourage people to look out for and report child abuse. The campaign focuses on all forms of neglect and aims to break barriers behind people not reporting concerns. It’s estimated that a third of people who suspect child abuse do nothing about it. The council now wants people to use the ‘ABC’ guide to spot the signs of abuse and neglect. Next Step On Road To Integration
Plans to create a pioneering new organisation for adult health and social care in Salford have taken another step forward. Details of the full business case and new governance arrangements for the Integrated Care Organisation have been published and are now being considered by each of the organisations which are developing the proposals: Salford City Council, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Salford Clinical Commissioning Group and Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMW). Top Marks For Primary School Choice In Salford
Nearly 90% of parents were given a place at their first preference primary school in Salford this year. That’s an increase of three per cent on last year when 86% of parents were offered their first preference.
