Salford City Council is looking for people who want to make a difference in Kersal, Broughton and Charlestown. The one year pilot scheme has been launched to give the community a voice on how things can be done differently to improve the lives of children and families. FACT (Fuelling Ambitions Creatively Together) will be launched at the Landing, MediaCityUK, on Thurday 28 April between 9.30am and 4pm, with another session the next day. New Child Abuse Campaign Launched
Salford City Council is supporting a new government campaign to encourage people to look out for and report child abuse. The campaign focuses on all forms of neglect and aims to break barriers behind people not reporting concerns. It’s estimated that a third of people who suspect child abuse do nothing about it. The council now wants people to use the ‘ABC’ guide to spot the signs of abuse and neglect. Next Step On Road To Integration
Plans to create a pioneering new organisation for adult health and social care in Salford have taken another step forward. Details of the full business case and new governance arrangements for the Integrated Care Organisation have been published and are now being considered by each of the organisations which are developing the proposals: Salford City Council, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Salford Clinical Commissioning Group and Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMW). Top Marks For Primary School Choice In Salford
Nearly 90% of parents were given a place at their first preference primary school in Salford this year. That’s an increase of three per cent on last year when 86% of parents were offered their first preference. Thousands To Take Part In Mental Health Awareness Week.
Over 1.25 million people used NHS specialist mental health services in 2009-10; an increase of 4% in the previous year which continues a rising trend. That’s according to statistics given by Mental Health Research UK who are the only organisation in the country that exclusively supports UK based research into mental health. Mental illness and self-injury account for 22.8% of the UK’s disease burden, compared to 15.9% for cancer and 16.2% for cardiovascular disease. More Time To Bid For Funds
Community groups planning events for Youth Day 2016 have been given more time to bid for funding. Salford City Council has limited funds to help youth and community groups stage events on or around Friday August 12 as part of the annual Youth Day celebrations to recognise the huge contribution young people make to the city. The deadline for submitting bids has been extended from next Monday to noon on Monday April 25. Making The Countryside Accessible To All
Accessthedales will be donning their rucksacks and heading to the hills on April 10th 2016 for the start of their new long distance trek designed especially for all-terrain wheelchair users. Debbie North, founder of Accessthedales, and husband Andy were keen hill walkers before ill health meant Debbie had to start using a wheelchair. Since then the pair have been promoting accessibility in the countryside by pioneering new routes which are suitable for all-terrain wheelchair users. Fundraising Events Planned To Mark Purple Day
UK-wide charity Epilepsy Action surveyed almost 700 people who suffered from epilepsy to explore how they felt about talking to others about their condition. Amongst those who were surveyed: One in five (19%) people said they felt uncomfortable or very uncomfortable talking about their epilepsy with friends. One in seven (14%) felt uncomfortable or very uncomfortable talking about their epilepsy even with their family. One in four felt uncomfortable talking to work colleagues. Tories Backtrack On Welfare Reform Plans
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osbourne has delivered his eighth budget where he set out how he planned to clear the deficit and for the economy to be in a small surplus by 2020. The speech which took place on Wednesday 16th March contained a number of plans. Amongst them was a new sugar tax on the soft drinks industry which would be introduced in two years time. Staff and pupils at Oakwood Academy are celebrating after being chosen to help train the next generation of teachers. The Eccles based special school becomes the third school in Salford chosen to recruit and train new entrants to the profession and provide professional development for qualified teachers at all stages of their career.
