As people across the UK gather to help mark International Women’s Day, events are being arranged to help highlight the various themes which are being associated with this year’s festivities. On the whole, the main theme for this year’s festivities are to accelerate action. The occasion which takes place on March 8th will contain many events and information sessions to highlight the urgent need for action.

If we measured the current rate of progress across the world, it is estimated that it will take until 2158 which is roughly five generations from now to reach full gender parity across the world. That’s according to the latest data from the World Economic Forum. As alarming as that sounds, it is necessary to help highlight the urgent need for change in all sectors and ways of dealing with daily events.

It is also necessary to take swift and decisive measures to achieve gender equality. It is completely unfair for male and female to be treated differently if they do the same job or take part in the same activities. This can happen in many companies and organisations around the world and action needs to be taken so all people can achieve a fair rate of pay and have the same benefits with those of the opposite sex.

A worldwide call is being put out to help acknowledge strategies, resources, and activity that positively impact women’s advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation.

From grass roots groups to large-scale bodies, philanthropic entities are working tirelessly to support and advance women and girls. So let’s step forward in solidarity and commit to helping these groups #AccelerateAction for IWD 2025 and beyond.

Through IWD GIVING, together let’s make March 8 one of the biggest GIVING DAYS of the year. And remember, it’s not solely large global charities calling for financial donations on IWD. There are thousands of grass roots charities working tenaciously for women’s advancement where funds can be directed as well.

Impactful organizations and groups across the world deliver an array of effective strategies, resources, and activity that help #AccelerateAction in many areas including:

Forging women’s economic empowerment

Recruiting, retaining and developing diverse talent

Supporting women and girls into leadership, decision-making, business and STEM

Designing and building infrastructure meeting the needs of women and girls

Helping women and girls make informed decisions about their health

Involving women and girls in sustainable agriculture and food security

Providing women and girls with access to quality education and training

Elevating women and girl’s participation and achievement in sport

Promoting creative and artistic talent of women and girls

Addressing further areas supporting the advancement of women and girls

A number of key world figures have delivered some inspirational quotes over the years which help to emphasise the fact that women should be treated equally with men and not just held back because of what gender they are. These include:

“Women are like teabags. We don’t know our true strength until we are in hot water” —Eleanor Roosevelt.

“There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish” —Michelle Obama.

“A girl should be two things: who and what she wants” —Coco Chanel.

“Human rights are women’s rights, and women’s rights are human rights” —Hillary Clinton.

“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made” —Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“A strong woman understands that the gifts such as logic, decisiveness, and strength are just as feminine as intuition and emotional connection”.
