An experienced female kick-boxer has been appointed as a member of the National Association Of Karate and Martial Arts Schools management committee. Within her role as National Management Committee Officer, it is hoped that Kelly McFie will be able to use the experience and skills she has gained while taking part in the sport to further strengthen the organisations governance as well as increase elements of equality so that coaching with in the sport will be t the highest level and be able to nurture and easily discover the next generation of champions.

Some of Kelly’s main responsibilities will be to report to the organisation’s chairman and look for new ways to ensure the highest level of governance, compliance and risk control. By doing this more participants should be able to take part with in the sporting field and feel they have the right amount of support and training to further themselves with in the field of martial arts and kick-boxing. They will also be able to learn from someone who has the ability and experience to show them how everything works.

Kelly has over thirty three years experience with in the field and this proves that she has the skills needed in order to train new beginners. This will hopefully build more sporting talent with in the country in order so that they may be successful in the future and hopefully win some major accolades for the country.

“I am thrilled to have been appointed as committee officer for NAKMAS,” said Kelly. “I look forward to working with the Chairman and the NAKMAS National Management Committee to further strengthen NAKMAS’ position as a leading authority as an independent national governing body within the martial arts world.”

The governing body has made the new appointment with a strong willingness to help the sport grow and attract the right kinds of people. With in the sporting arena, certain sectors of the community may be missing out as they don’t have the right support to take part and achieve greatness. This can include disabled people who want to take part but may require certain adaptations to equipment or arenas in order to do so.

Disability karate is a non contact sport which is fun and exciting but focuses on the personal mental, emotional and physical development of each individual. Disabled people are normally more isolated when it comes to playing sports as there are little or no provisions made for them. Any adaptations which can be included to help incorporate them will help them to adjust and continue to associate with their friends and peers. This will drastically reduce any isolation that they may experience so as much effort as possible should be made to enhance equality for everyone.

Many studies have taken place on the effectiveness of martial arts and they have all proved that they produce good cognitive and behavioural benefits. This should in turn help the participant form part of a well functioning society as well as gain more independence and ability to be able to function in the everyday world. This helps to strengthen the country’s economy as well as help to attract more support and investment for different groups of people.

“We are delighted to welcome Kelly to the national committee team,” said The Reverend Joe Ellis, the National Chairman of NAKMAS and an 8th Dan within Karate. “Her expertise and passion for martial arts will be invaluable as we move forward with our ambitious growth and governance plans. She runs her own kick-boxing club as a senior black belt (4th Dan) and has an impressive list of qualifications, including a BSc (Hons) First Class in Physical Activity and Health. She is also a competitive weightlifter and was the British Masters Champion in 2019. I am very proud to have Kelly on the committee, and I know she will make excellent contributions to NAKMAS as a whole”.
