Bullied_girl

A Canadian company has developed a novel way of engaging and teaching children how to cope when they are being bullied. Based in Brampton, Ontario, Bully Brave teaches students representative bully resistance skills to educate children, parents and teachers about the realities of bullying, the stereotypes, the roles and how to effectively diffuse situations before they get out of control. Having taught over 70, 000 children how to deal with such situations they have adapted their weathered curriculum in to engaging, interactive and online lessons.

Bullying is when somebody hurts you either physically or verbally. This can be done in a number of ways including:

◾Calling you names

◾Spreading lies about you

◾Teasing you

◾Hitting or kicking you and causing you physical pain

◾Pushing or pulling you about

◾Taking your money or possessions

◾Leaving you out or excluding you

◾Threatening or intimidating you

◾Texting you horrible messages

◾Filming you on their mobile phones and spreading it about

◾Sending you horrible emails or messages on Facebook and other social networking websites.

Examples of different sorts of bullying which can occur include:

  • Homophobic bullying- where somebody is bullied because they are of a different sexual orientation e.g. somebody who is straight might call a homosexual person gay as an insult.
  • Racist bullying- someone may bully you because you have a different skin colour to them. This includes things such as calling you nasty names.
  • Sizeist bullying- someone may bully you because you are of a different build or shape to them. Examples of this include calling someone fat or skinny as an insult.
  • Sexist bullying- this is when a boy may call a girl weak just because they aren’t able to lift heavy objects or do as many things as they can.

Having been developed for students, the company’s goal is to make each student “brave” and know exactly how to cope and what to do if they find they are being bullied. If you’d like more information on this scheme please visit:
