A conference which invites women who are already proactive in their professions and/or communities to attend is being planned by the People Help People team. The group of four women who have already been creating ripples (some may say waves) since they set up under two years ago are committed to social impact and want to do even more as they have met many women along the way who were yearning for a safe yet inspiring place to harness ideas and discover ways to collaborate on the things that matter.
The “Inspiring Women Changemakers” conference will be the first in a series of events which will build on the excellent events which have taken place in Leeds this year. These include the International Women’s Day conference organised by Leeds City Council and the Women’s Conversations- Leeds event. The event is open to women in the Leeds City region.
It will take place at the Royal Bank of Scotland, 2 Whitehall Quay (3rd Floor), LS1 4HR Leeds, United Kingdom on Thursday 5th November from 10.00 to 14.30.
Tickets for the event are available now. The event fee will enable the organisers to cover their costs and offer seedcorn funding towards a project they’d like to see happen. Five free tickets are being offered in line with a tithing approach for those who want to contribute but would be stretched by the fee. Please email anj.handa@peoplehelppeople.co.uk and share (in less than 200 words please), why you would like to attend and what change you would like to bring about.
The event is a women only event to enable them to find a place to explore their personal challenges with other women. The gender pay gap has started to widen and the UK is lagging behind other EU countries.
For example, in July, David Cameron announced a target of getting 25% female representation on FTSE 100 Boards. This latest move does not address the needs of women in less senior positions, or those that simply have no personal desire to join a Board. For women in part-time jobs, entry-level roles or those experiencing gender-based violence (1 in 4 women), health and pay inequalities are greater still.
There will be many speakers at the conference including Leader of Leeds City Council, Cllr Judith Blake and Cath Speight.
