It’s never been safer to eat food in Salford.

Latest hygiene ratings from Salford City Council show that 90.5 per cent of all food businesses in the city are receiving a rating of three or higher.

Environmental health officers visit all 2,193 food businesses in the city and they are given a rating from zero to five, depending on the hygiene standards. Places with a rating of five have the best standards of food hygiene in the city.

Action is taken against premises that do not comply and when there is an immediate threat to public health they can be shut down or prosecuted.

Ben Dolan, Strategic Director for Environment and Community Safety at Salford City Council, said: “Hygiene ratings of compliant businesses have increased by 3 per cent again last year but we’ll continue to make visits to all food businesses to keep standards up in our city.

“You can’t tell how clean a kitchen is from the outside of the building or how well it is decorated. So when you are eating out look for a green and black sticker in the window which will show the hygiene rating or check online at www.food.gov.uk/ratings.”
